Feel Teal Talk: Giving Thanks

This week it's all about giving thanks. It wasn't that long after audiences were enjoying Episode One that some creative brainstorming was underway. A few of you suggested including music. In addition to song requests, we asked: Think about what music means to you, and what particular song holds that extra special place in your heart, and "why".

Shelly's Nursery Rhymes: The REST of the Story...

"Shelly Ryan was born in the kingdom of Minneapolis. After being enlightened by great literature (okay, nursery rhymes), she developed a vivid imagination. Being an only child this trait was useful, although her parents never determined how many imaginary siblings she had..."

She is pictured on the cover with one of her little brothers, Punkinhead. For years Shelly thought it was the voices in her head; turned out it was Peter Peter’s WIFE who was living inside her pumpkin shell! Halloweens would never be the same...

As adults we tend lose that innocence of our youth, but we should never stop asking questions. So why DID Peter put his wife in a pumpkin shell?

I also believe it's important to let our inner child come out and play often, so that's why I developed this project...evoking our memories of nursery rhyme days but giving a modern and humorous perspective.

Ovarian cancer has a new weapon, the healing powers of comedy love!

North Sydney , Australia . 07 Aug 2011 .

Meet Shelly Ryan, Comedian, Blogger/Writer, Ovarian cancer supporter and now, author of "Floor It! Road Trips Down The Humour Highway", the latest venture by this "funny lady"!

They say "laughter, is the best medicine" and for Shelly Ryan, this is all part of her bigger plan. Sharing her gift for laughter with the world, Shelly's upcoming publication takes its reader on the journey of a lifetime, offering the power of humour healing in just the right dosage! A book like no other, you'll need to be buckled-in tightly, for you are about to embark on a hilarious ride filled with silly twists and turns and deliberate quirks that will have even the most cynical reader, in stitches!

Shelly's a late bloomer making up for lost time. Don't let the mild-mannered, middle-aged mom persona fool you. Her mantra is "If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun" -- and this Atlanta writer and comedian never misses the fun! This statement is exactly what you'll find with her jokes; just go to any page on the internet where her fans are all in agreement. On a more personal note, as the Founder/Creator of the Feel Teal Club, my own connection with Shelly has allowed me the opportunity to share her other "love", the admiration she has for the late great, Gilda Radner, who sadly lost her battle with ovarian cancer back in 1989.

Since joining us in March 2010, we have shared the launching of our first worldwide awareness campaign and the creation of the Feel Teal Club Forum where we invite the public to participate further, interacting with other community members. It is here, that Shelly has set-up her own room, completely devoted to her many memories of Gilda, aptly titled, "Gilda Moments" with Shelly Ryan.

As we eagerly await the arrival of her new book, it is with much joy in our hearts and deep appreciation that we acknowledge all she has done for our cause...and for women, worldwide!

Michele Wendling (Shelly) Ryan was born in the kingdom of Minneapolis. After being enlightened by great literature (okay, storybook tales), she developed a vivid imagination. Being an only child this trait was useful, although her parents never determined how many imaginary siblings Shelly had. Children eventually have to decide what they want to be when they grow up. Not easy when your role models give conflicting messages. Could a happy medium exist between innocent fairy tale princess and buxom fashion model? Shelly thought this incongruity was funny! By high school Shelly realized a sense of humor was more than entertaining; it was therapeutic! This marching band nerd (who stayed home cleaning the fireplace waiting for Prince Charming to show up) spent her weekends laughing with Saturday Night Live, especially Gilda Radner.

PRESS RELEASE: A Titan's Journey in Print

Feel Teal Club member/comedian, Shelly Ryan, hits the road again, this time in print! From her childhood ingenuity to the madcap road trips, her upcoming book encapsulates this incredible journey of one woman's passion to make the world laugh!

N.S.W (I-Newswire) August 7, 2011 - This month's ovarian cancer awareness campaign included the talents of various supporters, each with their own purpose and methods for raising the profile of ovarian cancer.

Since our original launching of the Feel Teal campaign, Shelly Ryan has played an integral role in pushing the awareness message across to the general public. Much of her own energy drawn from the late great comedic genius, Gilda Radner.

Shelly Ryan's love and honest enthusiasm for her craft is clearly visible through her jokes, just like second-nature. She is a great observer of life, perhaps part anthropologist of wit, with a knack for dissecting everyday life situations, and turning them into something humorous.

It's not surprising that her journey has brought her to this place, such creativity cannot be contained nor kept still! The Feel Teal Club is pleased to be a part of her travels as she takes with her, further awareness to every corner of the globe. We know there are many other writers putting their pens to work for similar causes, when used in the right manner, it's a mighty weapon to have on one's side.

For Shelly, this creation will do more than tell a tale, it will offer many “hope” for a better outcome (of ovarian cancer), aide in further education towards the disease while giving them the gift of laughter!

As a “Titan of Teal”, Shelly is proactive in lending her voice to the campaign, constantly seeking out charities to gain further insight and knowledge, a wonderful example for women everywhere!

With her book release-date soon to be announced, all eyes are on Shelly's Blogs and Websites where we eagerly await word of news of final print. Her personal contribution goes beyond the humour with a portion of proceeds from her book being donated to ovarian cancer organisations.
What happens next, is anyone's guess!

My new version of computer Internet access has a helpful feature: Report Spam. Yes sir, I’d like to report some Spam. Momma fried it up, tried to disguise it, and made me eat it. Titans of Teal!

When I connected with the Feel Teal Awareness Campaign, I considered it an honor to share my humor for such a fantastic cause! I was immensely influenced by the comedic genius of Gilda Radner, whose life was taken too early by ovarian cancer. She touched the lives of millions, and in a funny way her spirit lives on in me.

Likewise I am inspired by the survivors, not only others with notable names (such as Kathy Bates, Madeline Kahn and Jessica Tandy), but also the countless numbers of courageous women who continue to fight this disease. Their stories have touched MY life, and that spirit is the driving force behind this powerful connection...

TITAN: Any person having gigantic strength or size...Courage with a fighting spirit!

A Titan of Teal is all this and more...they too posses courage and a fighting spirit of gigantic proportion. Their strength comes in numbers as the number of warriors continue to grow! They work as individuals, or as a group, but share a common interest...advocating to raise the status of ovarian cancer!

The Titans of Teal campaign provides a connection to other ovarian cancer supporters, worldwide. Through this the public will have access to participate in various events & fundraisers along with links to more websites & blogs.

More information will be available soon (including my newest project that will be affiliated with this cause on a global level), and I will share updates as they become available.

Love & laughs,
Shelly

My Wild Irish Road Trip

Excerpt from travel journal
Somewhere in the Irish countryside...
7-19-2005

Our road trip took us past many interesting towns…Ballykelly, Ballybogey, Billy Bob Bally. Went past the Country Lane B&B. Quaint farm house with many cattle in front yard. Must be their security system. “You’ll be protected around the clock by our vigilant bovines.”

Laughter is the best medicine. Saw a sign for Mr. Phlemy’s Furniture. Imagine walking in with sales staff clearing their throats. For accessories, visit Mr. Loogie’s Lamp Shoppe.

More evidence that Ireland is one of the most polite places in the world. In addition to seeing signs in buildings “please mind your step,” there are welcome signs to each village as well as ones thanking you for driving safely and bidding farewell in many languages: Good Bye, Bon Voyage and Gute Fahrt (which must be German for “bye-bye” or “I impressed myself and others with recently letting one rip”).

When one spends hours winding through the countryside, it’s amazing how observant one becomes. Cows and sheep seem to spend an infinite amount of time in the “grazing” position. With all that eating you’d think they’d be much larger than they are. However, they are prone to “gute fahrts” and, according to scientific studies, are the cause of ozone depletion due to belching and passing other gaseous methane substances.

All that eating also leads to position favoured by young children, “going potty.” Occasionally see livestock in “resting” position. For some reason sheep sleep near rocks.

More to follow...

New Year's Greetings!

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

I shared this quote on my Facebook fan page because it captures the essence of what I'm striving for this year both personally and professionally. I can't wait to share my ongoing stories of comedy love with you in so many ways!

In an attempt to get back to basics and instill more simplicity in my life in 2011, January’s Humor Highway asks the question: Convienient…or NOT? Read the full article at Flip Side to Music and subscribe to the RSS Feed so you don't miss this monthly road trip!

The Feel Teal Club raises awareness for Ovarian Cancer with the focus on an early diagnostic screening test which will save more lives of women and girls throughout the globe. Visit the website and join the forum where I moderate "Gilda Moments" as a tribute to my comedic influence whose life was taken too soon by this disease.

It's going to be a treat (tilts head in cute, inquisitive puppy-like fashion) to be on the team for Boxerstock 2011 to benefit Atlanta Boxer Rescue, an organization dedicated to the rescue and adoption of Boxers in the metropolitan-Atlanta area. We'll be back at Jim Miller Park in Marietta, GA in October with music, dogs and much more!

Let's see...what else ? The possibilities are endless with these blank pages waiting to be filled. The only resolution I'm making this year? Continuing to share an abundance of love and laughter. I encourage you to do the same!
